Pro – Gambia society was initiated by Mrs Ritva Siikala in Finland. The Society decided to initiate development projects in the Gambia.

The society started supporting the Gambia YMCAs after an evaluation visit in ending 1996 / 1997. The society has donated computers to the Gambia YMCAs Computer Training Centre and provides scholarships for needy students of the YMCA Vocational Training Centre annually.

The society under the leadership of Mrs Ritva Siikala has made visits to the Gambia YMCAs to see its programmes. The society continues to support the Gambia YMCAs in scholarships, IT support etc. It helps support the salary of a staff of the Computer Training centre also.

Its members includes, Gambians living in Finland, Computer Professionals and various Finns interested in philanthropic gestures towards community-oriented services in developing countries.
